The 2018 100% Design Show once again demonstrated that architects, interior designers and clients have at their disposal a tremendous range of creativity and originality in the materials, furniture, fixtures, fittings and décor to suit every kind of building design or fit-out.
The annual snapshot of contemporary, inspirational products presented some interesting applications for traditional materials, particularly concrete. This was one of the stand-out materials again (as it was at the Surface Design Show), available in virtually every format imaginable – on a roll, in a plank, on a tile and even masquerading as something else! Concraft and Topcret UK (@TopcretMicrocem) were two of the exhibitors demonstrating great use of this age-old material.
The new 100% Build London area of the show provided an excellent showcase for more structural and finished products for the fabric of buildings. Glass and glazing was represented here with the likes of Express Bi-Folding Doors (@ExpressBiFolds) and Finepoint Glass (@Glass_Finepoint). It was also interesting to see that the organisers have incorporated a technical learning feature into the show, with the BSI sponsored CPD Hub providing training from companies such as Legrand (@LegrandUK) and Rockfon (@RockfonUK).
Was there a star of the show? Well, there was certainly plenty of eye-catching furniture and surface coverings which reflected an industry in excellent health. Perhaps the most memorable display was that of ALDEBARAN Furniture in the ‘Emerging Brands’ area of the show. The company’s wall cabinets could not help but catch the eye, whether the furniture is to everyone’s taste or not!
